Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an 'Extreme Cold Warning' for much of the west central region.

A system will bring arctic air from Alaska as we head into Monday (Jan. 13) morning. The air will become very cold and entrenched in the region. The cold is expected to stick around and push eastward as we move through the week.

Unfortunately meteorologist Terry Lang says we wont see anything warmer than -20 for almost a week.

“Anything, in the west central region, that is below minus 40 is considered to warrant an extreme cold warning to people in the area and we are expecting to see those types of temperatures over the next 10 days."

With an extreme cold warning everyone is reminded of the dangers the weather can pose. Be sure to cover up any exposed skin, dress in layers, and exercise caution when traveling. Meteorologist Terry Lang also says it be a good idea to ensure you keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.

“No one plans for anything bad to happen and will maybe just throw on a hoodie if they are going a short distance, but if something were to happen, you would be pooched, therefore, taking an extra few minutes to wear and pack the right things could save you in the long run.”

We will be watching the bus routes on Monday morning. Be sure to tune into Country 104.9 and Classic Hits 1210 & 1330 for the most up to date reports.
