Nearly 50 communities including Eatonia, Elrose, and Kyle have been included in the latest phase of planning from SasktTel surrounding faster internet speeds in rural areas. Five previous phases of SaskTel's Rural Fibre Initiative have already resulted in over 100 communities planning to install SaskTel infiNETTM service.

West Central communities have been involved throughout these announcements. Phase 1 of the project included Biggar. Kindersley and Rosetown were included as part of Phase 2. Maple Creek was the closest location noted in Phase 3, and then Phase 4 and Phase 5 featured Macklin, Outlook, Unity, Delisle, Eston, Kerrobert, Leader, and Wilkie respectively.

The upcoming phases construction work will begin in 2023/24 with all communities included in the Rural Fibre Initiative set to be fibre-ready by the end of March 2025.

According to the release, once all six phases of the Rural Fibre Initiative are complete Saskatchewan’s largest fibre optic broadband network 'infiNET' will reach approximately 80% of all households in the province.
