Very dry conditions in Saskatchewan this month have caused a bit of a problem for campers who were hoping to enjoy campfires during their vacation.

A fire ban has been issued for multiple provincial parks and recreation sites throughout the province which is in effect until further notice. The Ministry of Parks, Culture, and Sport had made the announcement due to the possibility of extreme fire hazards from current conditions.

As of Friday afternoon, open fires are prohibited in the following Saskatchewan provincial parks and surrounding recreation sites:

  • Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.
  • Coldwell Recreation Site.
  • Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.
  • Cypress Lake Recreation Site.
  • Danielson Provincial Park.
  • Douglas Provincial Park.
  • Elbow Harbour Recreation Site.
  • Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park.

Self-contained portable gas heating devices and fire pits, barbecues, pressurized stoves, and charcoal briquettes are still permitted for cooking and heating purposes during the ban. This regulation will be at the park's discretion for the duration of the ban.

Residents are asked to report any fires observed in these parks by calling Park Watch toll free at 1-800-667-1788. If a fire appears to be out of control, call 911.
