Even though the long weekend has come to a close, there is no reason that you can't have getaways in your own backyard. If you are planning on making use of your backyard fire pit, there are some regulations that you should take into consideration.

Dennis Ogg, Rosetown Fire Chief, explained that there are some regulations for fire pits in the town.  It must be non-combustable, be no bigger than six cubic metres, and be covered by a screen that has no bigger than a 3/4 inch opening.

Ogg added that there are some safety precautions that go along with using a fire pit. The pit must be at least 10 feet from other combustables such as buildings. It must be lit only by adults without barbeque starters or gasoline. The main thing is to supervise your fire and make sure to put it out properly with water when finished.

Special considerations must also when living close to other people. He urges citizens to be very considerate to neighbours. Burn only seasoned wood, no garbage or garden refuse and make a note of which way the wind is blowing so smoke doesn't get into your neighbours backyard.
