From the small Village of Milden to the big screen, Netflix will be getting some local representation. A Toronto production company recently discovered the ‘local talent' on an online classifields ad.

Tammy Renz, of Rosetown, had listed some of her family’s farm equipment for sale on the internet. One of these items was a 1963, custom cab Mercury 3-ton truck. Renz was surprised when she got a call inquiring about the ‘old gal' for a Netflix show.

“She doesn’t have a name, but she just always seemed like a ‘she’ to me,” laughed Renz. “I drove that thing on the family farm for years.”

The old, red truck will be receiving a bit of a face-lift before she takes the stage. Renz explained that the ‘63 truck fit right in with the era of the show but her colour did not.

“I was told that she will be painted dark blue, apparently certain colours work better on screen than others,” said Renz.

The Netflix superhero series, The Umbrella Academy, will use the truck as a blocker. Renz said that they were quite excited to get her. Despite all the miles traveled and grain hauled, Renz reported that she’s still in pretty good condition.

Renz, no stranger to the screen herself, was an extra in the movie Cool Runnings.

“The asking price on the truck was $3000.00 and a promise to not forget her humble beginnings,” joked Renz.

The truck has been hauled away and is set to begin her new life in Toronto, as Renz likes to say, as the star of the show.
