A week after storms resulted in flooding across the southern Prairies, the Trans-Canada Highway is finally close to being reopened near Maple Creek.

Final preparations are being made on the eastbound lanes at the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary, with the plan being to open the road to two-way traffic sometime today.

That will be welcome news to travellers and truckers who have been forced to detour hundreds of kilometres out of their way. Many of those travellers have had to come up to the Rosetown and Kindersley areas by means of Highways 7 and 4.

Work can then begin on the westbound lanes, which completely collapsed last weekend under extensive flooding. The above picture illustrates the damage that has been done to the westbound lane along the highway.
