While the number of people receiving treatment for COVID-19 in hospital declined Saturday, the number of new cases, and the number of deaths linked to the virus, both went up.

The provincial government reported Saturday that there were eight more deaths connected to COVID-19. There were also 480 new cases, 86.5 percent of which were in people who are not fully vaccinated.

There were seven fewer people in hospital, and one less person in intensive care. The update Saturday showed there were 306 people in hospital, 67 of those in intensive care.

Of the new cases that were reported, 162, or just over 25 percent, were in those 19 years old or younger. Another 155 were between the ages of 20 and 39. There were 92 cases in the 40-59 age group, 55 in the 60-79 age group and 16 in the 80 and older age group.

Geographically, Saskatoon reported 107 new cases, and Regina 72. There were 65 new cases in the North West, 47 in South Central, 28 in South East, 27 in Central East, 22 in North Central and South West, 17 in Far North West, 15 in North East, and seven each in Central West and Far North East.

The update on Saturday reported 2,040 first doses of a COVID vaccine had been administered, and 1,963 second doses. This brought the number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Saskatchewan to 738,553, or 62.7 percent of the province’s total population.
