July 2022 in the West Central region may be remembered by many for the frequent storms and steady heat. It seemed like every few days there was a severe thunderstorm watch or warning issued. Even tornado watches and warnings were issued at times. Some storms were quick to pass with more bark than bite, but a couple systems moving through the area late in the month left their marks.

The towns of  Kerrobert and Flaxcombe were battered the last weekend of July with high winds and hail which resulted in plenty of damage to crops, trees, buildings, and structures. The damage occurred during a storm on July 31st.

Rain for the most part was average in the area for the month of July. Totals in the main centres of Rosetown and Kindersley are as follows:

  • Rosetown 54.8mm - average 57.3mm

  • Kindersley 58.8mm - average 55.8mm

Aside from the thunderstorms, heat was also a factor last month. After what was projected to be a slightly cooler than normal July, it certainly didn’t feel like it. At least one heat warning was issued with multiple days scattered throughout the month reaching over 30 degrees.

Kindersley saw at least 4 days over 30 degrees, though, data recordings throughout the month aren’t exact. For reference, Rosetown had 8 days over 30 degrees.
