Kerrobert recently held a Sportsman Dinner and Auction to help raise money for their local hockey teams.

On Friday, guests filled in to the Prairieland Community Centreand had the pleasure of meeting former Toronto Maple Leafs player Darcy Tucker, and Adrian Sakundiak, who formerly played with the Estevan Bruins, as well as the Saskatoon Blades.

Sakundiak shared some of his stories with the crowd, who was very pleased to have him there. Brad Murphy, who helped to set up the event, explained how exciting it was to have Sakundiak there at the event.

“Adrian’s kind of a prodigal son of Kerrobert. He was an inspirational, and a definite integral part of the Tiger teams that we had here in the late 80’s and early 90’s, we won a lot of championships. He hasn’t been back to town since. Adrian’s been a good friend to a lot of us on the team over the years, and we still keep in touch.”

Guests were also able to take part in a live auction after the speeches, and while they don’t yet know how much money they raised, Murphy is expecting the funds to be on par with the $30,000 they were able to raise in 2017. The money will be evenly donated to Kerrobert Minor Hockey, the West Central Rage, and the Kerrobert Sr. Tigers.

“We kind of organized this group with those three teams in mind, because they’re the primary users of our old rink, and basically, all this money gets filtered back into the old barn through rentals. Everybody’s gotta pay their ice fees every year, and this was just kind of an extra way to get all three groups together, and have a fun night and make some money doing it.”

Outstanding support from the community and surrounding communities as well as heartfelt and entertaining speeches, made for a great night celebrating hockey and all it brings to the lives of people in a small town.
