While the pandemic has created challenging times for us all, children have been having a very unique experience.

As schools across the country were forced to close, many parents had to rely even more on child care facilities. Once again this year, the Government of Saskatchewan has declared this week as Child And Youth In Care Week in the province, to raise awareness for locations like Kinder Kollege in Kindersley.

Jody Geddes, the Director at Kinder Kollege, shared with us how things have been going for them in the last few weeks, and said that everything has been well.

"Nobody's been ill, and everybody's been doing hand washing, which is typicslly what we do. We wash toys throughout the day, and lots have been put away for stuff that's not washable, but everything's washed down constantly. Lots of outdoor play. Everything's all good."

Geddes added that since they are located in a school, the Kinder Kollege did have to close down from March to June, but things have been running well ever since they were able to re-open.

As for new practices, Geddes said that they only have a limited number of toys out at a time, and rotate them out so they can be washed at least twice a day.

Geddes also explained another new practice.

"Protocol for pick up at the end of the day, parents keep it safe when they're outside picking children up, backpacks are in the hall washed down. The least amount of traffic of people into the centre is what we try to practice."

Families in the community have been very supportive of Kinder Kollege, and were happy to have them able to re-open. Kinder Kollege was recently able to return to their maximum capacity for children.
