If there is interest in constructing within the Town of Kindersley, starting a project within the next couple years would be a beneficial decision.

Recently, council gave the first reading for the Economic Incentive Tax Exemption Bylaw which would offer tax exemptions for companies considering construction in Kindersley. The strategy is to help promote economic development for new construction of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings within specific zones in the town.

"We're focusing on trying to get Main Street and downtown development, if at all possible," said Mayor Rod Perkins. "There is some very advantageous tax exemptions in that area."

The mayor expanded on the subject by mentioning how there are various options in the industrial area as well. "There is a real encouragement for people to act on them."

Although, residents may want to act on the opportunity soon as it is only offered until December 31st, 2018. The following points detail what projects will be considered eligible for the tax exemptions:

  • Available for building projects excluding mobile homes and highways, and includes the following tax exemptions: "R" zone construction (single dwellings, semi-detached dwellings, etc.) for three years, "R3" (apartments and townhomes) for five years, "C" (commercial/residential businesses) for seven years.
  • Exemptions are offered to occupancy permits issued as far back as November 2016.
  • All required permits for demolition, development, occupancy, and building must be completed and approved by the town.
  • Construction must be completed before December 31st, 2018 and occupancy permit issued within eighteen months of the building permit.

The second and third readings of the bylaw will be at council's upcoming meeting on Monday, April 10th beginning at 7:00 PM for the public.
