The 44th edition of the Kindersley Goose Festival is officially underway after yesterday's events.

The highlight of the day's festivities was the competition events featuring goose plucking, pie eating, and potato peeling. Members of Country 104 FM and Classic Hits Radio 1210/1330 were on hand to participate in the events located near Supreme Source For Sports in town.

The crowd gathered as the clouds clustered above the events area, and members from the West Central Abilities Centre cooked up scrumptious barbeque for the attendees.

To kick things off, a friendly contest named "The Great Egg Drop" started before the pie eating competition. Participants were chosen from the crowd and attempted to catch eggs dropped from several feet up in the air on a lift.

Pie eating started up afterwards at 5:30 PM with contestants grouped in teams and required to eat their pies the quickest. The team with the member who finished eating their pie first were crowned champions.

Out of three teams in the first round, a group selected from the crowd named "Fast Times at Ridgemont Pie" took the victory. In the second round between the Kindersley Kobras and Kindersley Klippers, it was the Kobras who won the round.

Potato peeling followed the pie eating competition and put teams to the test on who could peel the most potatoes the quickest. There were four rounds for potato peeling which consisted of members from the Chamber of Commerce, Kobras football team, Klippers, Golden West Radio, and the general public.

In the end, Klippers forward Ivan Vilcauskas took home the bragging rights as "Best Potato Peeler" from the final round.

Finally, goose plucking took the spotlight, and was undoubtedly the most interesting and captivating event of the three. Again, teams competed against each other to find out who could pluck feathers off of their goose the fastest.

Amber Labelle was able to pluck feathers faster than any woman or man on the stage, as she won the final round and took home the top prize in the event.
