Baseball season in Kindersley is over with the cooling temperatures, and children are now focused on their winter sports such as hockey and curling.

Members of Kindersley Minor Ball have been reflecting on the successes of the 2016 summer season and are already preparing for 2017. Organizers are looking for ways to improve baseball in Kindersley for next spring.

Kindersley Minor Ball (KMB) President Chad Miller presented a delegation to Kindersley town council at their last meeting regarding the organization's plan to improve the 2017 season for teams using the diamonds in town. Main discussion points included upgrading equipment, facilities, and safety for the near future, which are not included in the capital budget.

One item Miller discussed with council was the need for a new mower for the diamonds.  The air cooling engine mower utilized by staff had a top engine failure which was fixed. But, it has been recommended they strongly consider purchasing a liquid cooling mower to ensure they have a fully functional mower for 2017.

Kindersley Minor Ball are now looking to bring in advertisement opportunities for the ball diamonds in town to boost profits; money gained from businesses sponsoring and advertising at the diamonds would go directly towards the grassroots level and the upkeep of facilities.

Naming rights would be another avenue KMB would like to pursue in order to gain profits for the ball diamonds. Speedy Glass has already acquired the naming rights to the diamonds near Elizabeth School on a two-year deal after approval from Sunwest School Division. The location of the northeast diamond will now be known as "Speedy Glass Field". Miller mentioned how all naming rights contracts would stay at two years so they expire at the same time.

Miller discussed the option of offering naming rights to interested businesses for facilities such as the announcers booth and dressing rooms at Berard and Flanagan Fields. Although, councillors suggested the discussion be delayed to allow reflection for the proposed option.
