West central Saskatchewan's largest centre will be receiving an award for its exceptional waste minimization.
The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council plans to hand a 2017 Waste Minimization Award to the Town of Kindersley for their waste and recycle program. The award will be presented at the council's annual conference on May 18, 2017.
Kindersley has received a large amount of praise for their program since redesigning their strategy in 2015, which included the introduction of curbside collection. The modernization to operations have increased revenue for the town through landfill fees to enhance the security of the centre.
"It's great to see and it is a nice honour to receive." - Mayor Rod Perkins

Town administration has residents within the municipality and from surrounding communities buy into the program. Twenty communities utilize the landfill which sits approximately seven miles east of Kindersley.
In late 2014, a reconfigured entrance for recycle and compost drop-off sites was incorporated to the centre, and a weigh scale and collections office was established.
