Monday night's council meeting was one of the shortest to date, spanning for nearly an hour.

Nevertheless, the meeting covered some important topics for discussion amongst Mayor Rod Perkins and town councilors.

The situation involving an oilfield pipeline services company requesting to subdivide land near a residential area, causing concerns for homeowners, is smoothly drawing to an end. A plan seemingly fitting for all sides has been agreed upon by council and administration, the applicant, and a member of the petitioning homeowners.

Initially, a petition was signed by homeowners who had voiced their disapproval for the request in fear of increased noise and safety concerns.

The landowner has agreed to fund a landscaping plan featuring trees along the north and south sides of Railway Avenue extending to the east boundary of the Prairie Winds Estates residential area. The entire project is set to be complete by 2018 with phase one starting this year.

Other highlights from the meeting:

  • The first reading for Bylaw 04-17 was read by the mayor to amend the Official Community Plan (OCP) to keep with the recent amendments for the zoning bylaw (01-17). Three properties on 1st Avenue East are requested to be rezoned from a commercial to residential space. An updated zoning map from the OCP is included in the bylaw as well.
  • Mayor Perkins and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Bernie Morton entered into an agreement with MNP for audtiting services during the fiscal years of last year to 2019.
  • A delegation was brought forth by resident Lloyd Griffith in regards to his water bills issued for February to April of last year. Click here to read the story: https://westcentralonline.com/local/21695-resident-searches-for-answers-resolve-on-water-bill-issue
