It was an entertaining game Saturday night between the Macklin Sr. Mohawks and Redvers Rockets at the Credit Union Legacy Centre.

A full house came to watch the Senior D provincial final's first game. Redvers got on the scoresheet first, as captain Drew Hoff scored with the assist going to Koltyn Miller.

The visiting Rockets made it 2-0 early in the second on a goal off the hockey pants of Colby Potapinski, with the lone assist going to Oliver Poirier. But the Mohawks fought back to tie the score on goals by Brad Buckingham and Corey Doetzel sending the Credit Union Legacy Centre into a frenzy.

Macklin continued to press and in a wacky goal early in the third, Carson Pickett wound up a slapper from just inside the offensive blueline and the puck hit a rut in the ice and beat a surprised Thomas Bauche in the Redvers net to make the score 3-2.

The Rockets regained their composure, however, and it was Koltyn Miller who tied the score at three. The teams held on in regulation thanks to unreal goaltending from both sides and the game went into overtime.

In the overtime period, it was veteran Tyler Baier who was the hero, as his point shot on the powerplay had eyes, and beat Bauche sending the Macklin fans home happy with a 4-3 OT win.

The Mohawks can personally thank Trevor Martin for this victory, as his splendid goaltending was the reason the game went to overtime in the first place.

Game two of the best of three final series, goes back in Redvers Saturday, March 30 at 7:00 pm.
