The goal to begin construction for a new aquatic facility in Kindersley this year is one step closer after a special council meeting Tuesday evening.

Town council voted unanimously to enter negotiations with a group led by Western Recreation and Pro-bilt Structures for a construction strategy of the new facility. The consortium were voted in as the successful proponent out of seven firms in the submission process which included a design and construction plan for the centre.

Once council took a vote on the matter, Mayor Rod Perkins and Chief Administrative Officer Bernie Morton were directed to begin the contract negotiations to build an indoor aquatic centre neighbouring the West Central Events Centre (WCEC).

“There is a lot of hard work that has gone into this so far, and I know there will be a lot of hard work yet to come," said Mayor Perkins in the release. "But, this is a significant step forward for the pool project and I’m very pleased."

In a released statement from town administration, both the design and costs for the new pool will be officially unveiled on Saturday, April 22nd during a pool fundraiser at the WCEC. Council has set a target date for completing contract talks by May 8th for approval.
