Most of the games this season between the Kindersley Jr. Klippers and the Battlefords North Stars have been close, but after being shutout the night before by the North Stars, the Klippers were motivated to take it to the North Stars the next night. Both teams threw everything and the kitchen sink at one another, but the Klippers would fall 5-4 in a back and forth tilt that came down to who made the last mistake.

Right out of the gate, the Klippers played down ice and took an early shot advantage 4-1, but they'd be tested on an early hooking call to Charles Obobaifo. The Klippers killed it off and found their momentum again going right back into the offensive zone, and Cameron Rimstad nearly had his first goal as a Klipper when he fired a shot from nearly the goalline that went off the inside of the post and out into the open slot, missing by inches.

Then close to six minutes in, captain Jaxon Georget would go to the box for high sticking after he threw a hit and his stick hit a man along the way, and the Klippers did a good job for the most part of keeping the North Stars to the outside and forcing passes that would end up at the other end of the ice. Unfortunately, the North Stars would score with two seconds left on the powerplay when the puck was worked from the left side of the blueline to the right where Tynan Ewart had too much time to skate in towards the net and pick his spot over the glove to take the lead just under eight minutes in.

That could've served as a momentum killer for the Klippers, but they came back with a gritty, hard working effort to put the puck in the back of the net. With the Klippers holding the offensive zone, Josh Pufahl got the puck at the left side of the blueline and fired it into traffic. Bodies and sticks started to whack away, and Josh Danis would be the one to put the puck in the back of the net off the rebound.

Josh Morton had the best defensive shift of the game late in the third period. He blocked a shot that clearly hurt him and made it hard to stay on the ice, but managed to pick himself up, get back in the play, and clear the puck to centre. He was on the far side of the ice, so while his teammates went for a change, he stayed on to deal with the rush of the North Stars. Still a little banged up, he got the puck back again and this time cleared it high into the air and right onto Noah Lindsay's stick for a partial breakaway, and Lindsay was hauled down to draw a penalty for holding. The Klippers wouldn't score on the man advantage, but still had their chances.

After 1: Klippers 1 - 1 North Stars, shots 15-14 North Stars

The Klippers came out of the gate flying once again and make the North Stars back off into their own zone. Seven minutes in, the Klippers got an important powerplay that would lead to them taking the lead for the first time in the game. Ryley Little was called for roughing, and just over a minute later Tanner Gold would join him for roughing, giving the Klippers a long 5-on-3.

Austin Schwab made two solid saves on the 5-on-3 but the Klippers maintained pressure on the 5-on-4, and even though the Klippers didn't score, they kept their powerplay unit out while the North Stars penalty killers were still tired on the ice, and after a shot from Georget was redirected behind the net, Andrew Schaab picked the puck up for a wrap around attempt on the other side of the net, but a diving and sprawling Schwab barely got the back of his glove down in time for a highlight reel save. A scrum would ensue, and the finally Tylin Hilbig would pick up the loose puck and fire it in to give his team the lead.

Just over a minute later, and the North Stars responded off a rare puck handling error from Matt Pesenti. The puck was dumped in behind the net and Pesenti stepped out of his net to play it from right to left, and Colby Bear was streaking in to try and intercept that pass. Bear got there in time, centred it for Steven Kesslering, and it was 2-2.

One more powerplay would come and go for the Klippers, again they looked good, but still couldn't score. The North Stars nearly took the lead when Pesenti would stop an initial shot and fall to his back, and the puck would come back to the slot, and somehow the shooter was stopped by Pesenti one his back and reaching over with the glove.

After 2: Klippers 2 - 2 North Stars, shots 14-12 Klippers in the period, 28-27 Klippers overall

The third period was the best start the Klippers had all game long. It took just 1:03 for the Klippers to take their lead back when Schaab on the forecheck was able to turn the puck over and sent it into the slot for Tylin Hilbig who was left all alone with a clear look at the net. His onetimer hit the bar and down to give him his second of the game.

Then just 28 seconds later, the Klippers extended that lead. Tylin Hilbig and Schaab again on the forecheck would cause a ruckus and the puck would pop out into the slot, and Georget on his backhand was able to sneak the puck through traffic and suddenly a tie game was not a two goal lead for the Klippers with over 18 minutes to go.

It looked like things were going to get even better from there as Carson Baylis drew a highsticking double minor, and the Klippers would now have a full four minute powerplay. Now down by two, the North Stars were aggresive on the penalty kill to try and get things close. Because of this, both teams would get some chances back and forth, and the extended powerplay would end for the Klippers without a goal.

Just over seven minutes in, a large scrum happened in the Klippers zone net after the North Stars had some contact with Pesenti and Liam Bell had taken a hooking call before the whistle was blown, and the beginnings of a line brawl started to form. It never got quite that bad, but both Josh Morton and Steven Kesslering would get off setting high sticking calls along with 10 minute misconducts.

Bell's penalty was killed, but the North Stars would get a powerplay 14 minutes into the period when Ethan Hilbig got his stick a little too high on the hit, and he went to the box. On the powerplay, the Klippers looked like they were in the midst of a good kill just under a minute in, but then Ryland McNinch entering the zone from the right found a sliver of room over Pesenti's glove and under the bar, and he lazered one from a sharp angle off the bar and in, and suddenly the North Stars had life.

Two minutes later, and the North Stars tied it. Holden Doell down the right side of the ice fired a shot from out wide that Pesenti made the save on, but the rebound kicked out to Jake Southgate who tapped the puck into the open cage, and suddenly the game was tied after two goals just over two minutes apart.

After 3: Klippers 4 - 4 North Stars, shots 15-9 North Stars in the period, 42-37 North Stars overall

The overtime was fantastic, both teams going back and forth with end to end chances. Late in the overtime, Nathan DeGraves nearly ended it for the Klippers when he got sent on a breakaway but not cleanly. The entire way he had to battle off Kesslering from his left, which forced DeGraves to keep the puck to his backhand for the shot attempt, ans Schwab stayed with him for the save and the faceoff.

Off the draw, the Klippers got the puck, and Jaxon Georget circled back towards the blue line. What he didn't see was Holden Doell sneaking up on him and he picked Georget's pocket, then rushed up ice in a race between Georget and Doell, Doell won the race, fired a shot, and beat Pesenti fivehole with 20 seconds left to end one of the wildest games of the year in heartbreak for the Klippers.

FINAL (OT): Klippers 4 - 5 North Stars, shots 4-4 in overtime, 46-41 North Stars Overall
