Local artist Heather Aitken, released her very first album, Long Story Short.

Aitken's love for music started at a very young age. From the time she was a little girl she loved music and performed her own concerts in the living room of her family home near Rosetown. Aitken grew up on a farm with her parents and two siblings.

As she got older she took part in musical theater and later learned how to play the guitar and started writing her own songs. Aitken has performed in front on a live audience many times, including local events and at her property in Brock SK.

After years of performing she desided it was time to record her first album. "Some songs are new and some are old but they are all mine and come from different parts of my life and different experiences," said Aitken. She talked about her method of writing and how her songs come to be. "I don't get to decide what songs are about, they're just there and they just come out. Some people are more disciplined and can sit down and say they are going to write a song about this but I can't do that."

The recently released album took two years to produce. Aitken called it a passion project between herself and the producer. The pair worked on the album during their spare time.

Aitken said she still enjoys performing live, "It's memorable and I really enjoy playing with my brother...it's always a different roster, so every time we do it, it's something new and exciting."

The next time Aitken takes the stage will be April 12 in Kindersley, where she will perform for the grand reopening of the Garden Gallery, which was also the location of one of her first concerts after returning home from B.C.She also has a show scheduled for April 13 in Rosetown where all proceeds will go to the Gasper Family Memorial Splash Park.

Aitken is working on her first music video that is expected to be released in a few weeks. She also is planning on putting together a house concert tour.
