MLA Jim Reiter at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Rosetown Wheatland Centre. As 2019 approaches, many people are looking back on the past year.

MLA for the Rosetown and Elrose Constituency, Jim Reiter, said it was an eventful, successful and notable year for Saskatchewan politics.

"I think the biggest thing that happened in the past year goes back 11 months ago. Brad Wall stepped down as Premier and Scott Moe replaced him."

MLA Reiter said Premier Moe has really stepped into the role, "I think he's doing an outstanding job... Scott is a team builder, a big majority of caucus supported him and he has a way of bringing people together. We're very unified as a caucus and a party."

As Minister of Health, Jim Reiter is able to oversee all the strides in health care in the province. He said one of the biggest projects the ministry is currently undertaking is the Jim Pattison Hospital, "Maybe one of the most noticeable, we're on budget and on time for the new hospital in Saskatoon. That will be open in about a year from now which is very exciting for the province."

The 2018-19 budget also invested a record $5.77 billion to health care. That's up nearly 2.5% from the previous budget.

Other changes the ministry has made is investing more money into hearing tests for newborns and individualized funding for children with Autism.

There have also been notable events in Rosetown over this past year. The Wheatland Centre has their sod turning ceremony for the new facility being built on 2nd Avenue East in Rosetown.

MLA Reiter stepped in on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman for the event, which took place this past September. He said the centre will be a big benefit to his home community of Rosetown.

He noted there's also some larger scale projects still going on, "There's always a number of capital projects undergoing around the constituency. One I think people around the Rosetown area will notice is the work on highway 7 between here and Saskatoon. It's already, with the passing lanes, made that highway much safer and when the twinning is completed, it'll be better yet."

There is also planning in the works for passing lanes on highway 7 between Rosetown and Kindersley, but it may be a few years before that is accomplished.
