Highway 7 east of Kindersley is being included in the governments fall tender plan, to add even more passing lanes to the busy roadway.

The new project will look to add three sets of passing lanes between Kindersley and Fiske, these in addition to the two sets that were completed this year, east of Fiske to Rosetown.

“Construction crews have completed dozens of highway safety improvement projects such as twinning, passing lanes, intersections, surfacing, bridge and culvert work,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit said. “While there is more work to be done, we’ve begun the initial planning for the next construction season.”

Although the exact timeline for the project will be dependant on the contractor that secures the agreement, however, Steve Shaheen, senior communications consultant with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, said under normal circumstances, construction on the passing lanes would likely commence next spring.

The three sets of passing lanes between Kindersley and Fiske is just one of 15 road construction projects that are to be tendered this fall, which are expected to total an estimated $260 million worth of new contracts.

Shaheen stated Highway 7 will be getting further improvements in the coming years as the Ministry is currently in the design stage for improvements to the highway which goes west to the Alberta border.

“We are still working on the design details on the passing lanes west. That would be for three sets that would be constructed, plus additional truck climbing lanes, for a total of essentially four sets, or eight passing lanes, that will be west of Kindersley to the Alberta border.”

Shaheen outlined after they have finalized the design details for the Highway 7 project west of Kindersley, at that time, they would open it up to tender and a timeline for completion would then, be able to be determined.
