The latest Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) awareness campaign towards impaired driving is set to make a big impact over the next month.

SGI released an emotionally-heavy multimedia movement involving people who have been killed in accidents relating to drinking and driving. The campaign incorporates television, radio, theatre, billboard and online advertisements to spread the message.

One of the first ads issued by the crown corporation is a commercial replacing stock photographs used in a 2016 campaign with photos of real Saskatchewan people killed by impaired drivers.

The string of media advertisements and presentations are an attempt to bring the province's scary impaired driving statistics to light. In 2016, it was announced Saskatchewan has the highest percentage of impaired drivers in the country. Over the last decade, more than 600 people have been killed, and more than 4,000 injured in impaired driving collisions.

The provincial government strengthened laws for impaired driving at the beginning of 2017. Changes include a three-day vehicle seizure for experienced drivers caught for the first time with a blood alcohol content (BAC) over .04, increasing the age of zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol from under 19 to 21 and under, and making ignition interlock laws the strongest in Canada.

Below is the commercial released by SGI which will run until June 16th, 2017.
