As of the end of last month, more than 1,200 and fifty oil wells had been drilled in the province so far this year, a 96 per cent increase over the same time last year.

Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd says more than sixty per cent of the wells drilled this year are horizontal wells, a relatively new drilling technology in Saskatchewan. The new technology is very beneficial. The companies are finding much higher recovery rates while using horizontal wells. Boyd said that he believes that this is the drilling practise of the future.

Many companies are choosing to do business in Saskatchewan due to the great business climate.
