Highway 7 recently opened one of the four new passing lanes west of Rosetown. Scheduled later this week, a second passing lane will be open too.

Over the years, highway safety has improved on Highway 7 between Saskatoon and the Saskatchewan/ Alberta border as more passing lanes have been introduced along the road. The highway receives plenty of action and the Government of Saskatchewan has been investing money since 2014 in creating safety improvements along the highway.

Passing lanes have been paved east of Rosetown until Delisle, an additional twinning of the highway has also been installed from Delisle to Saskatoon and is nearly complete near Vanscoy.

The Government of Saskatchewan has invested more than $85 million into the Highway 7 project. Passing lanes as well as 30km of paving adds up to about $16.2 million.

The last of the four passing lanes between Rosetown and Kindersley are scheduled to open later this month.

The passing lanes between the two communities is sure to improve safety as they reduce collisions by 25 per cent. Not only do they reduce the collision rate but do so at 80 per cent less of the cost than twinning the highway.
