The anticipation is building for one of the summer's elite rodeo shows in the province.

The 26th Annual Kindersley Indoor Rodeo (KIR) will be taking over the town for the next three days with a whirlwind of rodeo events and miscellaneous activities on display. Highlighted events for the three day spectacle include the freestyle bull fighting, kids calf scramble, and the team-skilled events.

Usually, this time of the year is very hectic for the organizers and workers as they quickly set everything up for the rodeo. But this year, volunteers have had a little bit of the pressure taken off of them.

Due to the RCMP Musical Ride taking place last weekend, the dirt work has already been completed in the West Central Events Centre (WCEC) for the rodeo. Committee members are still shuffling steel around, but the arena will be ready to go for today's events. "We've had lots of help from the town to do some of that moving," said Tyler Ritchie, President of the Kindersley Indoor Rodeo committee. "It has been pretty smooth as far as prep for this year's rodeo."

Showers are a possibility knocking on the door over the next couple days too. Rain has been forecasted for Friday and Saturday, and even though it may cause a bit of a mess for the riders and animals, Ritchie discussed how the organizers will be prepared for the wet weather.

"Typically, this weekend is a rainy weekend every single year and we're used to having some adverse weather," explained Ritchie. "At the same time, this is an [agriculture] community and we welcome showers to help out the farmers."

As for the events themselves, people should be getting excited for the plethora of events and activities incorporated to the rodeo weekend. The KIR is part of the Canadian Cowboys Association circuit, and competitors will be looking to collect points and climb the standings. Attendees should be awaiting an action-packed weekend with competition at its peak.

"Every year we do get quite a few pro contestants swinging through Kindersley," said Ritchie, who mentioned how this year's rodeo was a record year for competitor entries. "Over 400 contestants entered the rodeo this year."
