Residents in west central Saskatchewan had an early start to celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary this past weekend in Kindersley.

The town welcomed the RCMP Musical Ride to the West Central Events Centre for three performances between May 27th and 28th.

And what a way to kick-off the summer of celebrations for Canada's birthday.

This was the first time the event had made its way to Kindersley since 2011. A group of locals, including Town of Kindersley administration employee Monica Shields, got together and sent an application for the ride to come back to the town for its "Canada 150 Tour".

The Musical Ride's tour dates this year extend to a number of different locations this summer including stops in Yellowknife and Skagway, Alaska. Town employees were shocked to find out when the RCMP chose Kindersley as one of the Musical Ride's tour stops despite their summer journey across Canada.

Kindersley will be one of the smallest municipalities the Musical Ride stops at during the 2017 tour. Before the riders and horses arrived into town, residents made sure they provided the proper amenities for the special guests and assured the performers felt at home during their weekend in the prairies.

If anything, the Musical Ride's stop in Kindersley will possibly be one of the only stops which offers a sense of community and small town allure to the show's personnel.

The shows offered something for everyone as there was also entertainment provided by local trick riders, flag bearers on horses, and singers for "O Canada". At the end of each performance, a different group was recognized for their work leading up to the event or for their commitment to the community. Residents were able to get a closer look of the horses after each show as well.

No doubt the RCMP Musical Ride was the best way to get everyone excited for the next few weeks of celebrating for Canada's 150th birthday.
