Meteorologists are hinting at some wacky weather before the Canada Day long weekend which could potentially have an effect on rural roads.

The chance for showers occuring today will hover around the 30 to 50 per cent range and increase to 60-70 per cent by tomorrow morning. The good news is the forecast for this weekend looks promising. Temperatures are set to hover in the mid-20s, and the skies will either be a mix of sun and cloud or clear.

Is there any bad news? Well, there is none at the moment. Although, the possible rainfall could effect the condition of rural roads for travellers or haulers looking to finish up work before the long weekend.

In the Rural Municipality of Kindersley, the roads are open for heavy haul traffic, as long as there is no further moisture. Officials from the RM have asked drivers to not bring mud on the grid roads at any time and to avoid the shoulders if possible as they provide safety issues from a fresh rainfall.

Another topic which has been brought up by rural communities this summer is drivers exceeding speeds on roads. Traffic travelling on grid roads are reminded to decrease speeds to 50 km/h when driving by farm yards and 30 km/h when passing workers or any emergency vehicle.

Finally, whether residents are haulers or oil patch workers, the rural municilities throughout west central Saskatchewan recommend people to stay up to date on road updates. Drivers can find updates posted on the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline or rural municipality webpages. Alternatively, residents can phone these sources as well.

Either way, let's cross our fingers and hope we have some decent weather before the Canada Day festivities kick off.
