The Rosetown Royals Speed Swim Team added 12 more medals to their season collection after their last two meets.

At the beginning of July, 12 swimmers made the 300 kilometre trek to Melfort and secured three first place finishes, one second place finish and one third place finish for a total of five medals.

The Merrifield’s who brought home numerous medals in the first two meets of the season, continued on their streak, claiming four out of the five medals brought back to Rosetown.

In the boys age 7-8 category, Jude Merrifield, tied for second place and added 24 points to his season total and in the girls age 13-14 category, Allister Merrifield added 22 points to her season total after placing third.

Jordan and Janel Merrifield brought home a gold for the swim team. Jordan took first place in the girls age 9-10 category and added 30 points to her total, meanwhile Janel secured first place in the girls age 18 and over category, adding 18 points to her season.

Alexander Scott, who also was atop the leader-boards at the first meets of the season, added to the team’s gold medal tally after taking first place in the boys age 7-8 category.

Last weekend the Biggar Barracuda’s hosted their invitational meet, where the Rosetown Royals collected seven more medals.

Of the 15 swimmers that attended the meet, three athletes including Alexander Scott, Jordan Merrifield and Janel Merrifield, all won their respective divisions and took home gold medals.

Jude Merrifield, Heimarie Strydom, Allister Merrifield and Barb Van Reeuwyk, made up the remaining four medals for the event, all athletes placed third, taking home the bronze.

This Saturday, the Royals will travel to Watrous to compete in the Northern Qualifiers, where if swimmers place in the top six of their division, they will advance to provincials on July 27 and 28.

Trevor Scott with the Rosetown Royals stated, “This year should add a little more motivation for our swimmers as Provincials is hosted by the Rosetown Royals. As well they have had some input in the design of our medals being handed out this this year.”

He added they have slowly been revealing parts of the medal design for this year, stating the full and final reveal will not be until Saturday morning at the beginning of the meet.
