Efforts to reduce red tape and modernize regulations continue across Saskatchewan as the province celebrates and highlights recent accomplishments during Red Tape Awareness Week.

Since launching the ‘Help Cut Red Tape’ website in January 2019, the government states they have received 2684 visitors to the website, resulting in 44 red tape irritants submitted. These submissions have either been resolved, or forwarded to the appropriate governing body for consideration.

The website encourages residents and business owners to report any inconsistent, unclear, our-of-date and repetitive regulations that, “create hardship for Saskatchewan people and business and act as barriers to economic growth”.

Recently, the government announced a change that will look to simplify tax filing for small and medium-sized businesses across the province.

The changes include raising the threshold amounts for returns that include provincial sales tax, liquor consumption tax and beverage container program, along with extended due dates for those who file electronically.

The changes, which will be in effect as of April 1, 2020, will allow eligible businesses to file their returns less frequently.

The government forecasts $450 million in savings over the next 10 years due to current and future reduction of red tape.
