The Saskatchewan Health Authority announced that while active cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan did decrease today, someone has also died from the virus. They said ten new cases have been confirmed and one person has died.

This death represents the 14th COVID-related death in Saskatchewan since the pandemic first made its way to the province in mid-March. The death was a resident in the far north region who was in their 70s.

The ten new cases are a bit deceptive, as are the recoveries, in that the province did not record them all in one day. Four new cases on July 1 (a day on which Saskatchewan did not release numbers) and six today make up the ten cases. The province has now seen 795 cases of the virus.

Of those ten cases, seven are in the far north region, which has the most active cases in the province at 46. Two of the remaining three are in the north region, while the third is in Saskatoon.

The province also announced 17 new recoveries today, bringing the total for Saskatchewan to 701. Active cases dropped by seven, taking them down to a province-wide total of 80.

Six people are hospitalized due to the virus at the moment. Three people are receiving inpatient care, with two of those in Saskatoon and one in the north. Three are in intensive care units, one in Saskatoon and two in the north.

To date, 67,243 COVID‐19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of June 29, 2020, when other provincial and national numbers were available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 49,529 people tested per million population. The national rate was 73,695 people tested per million population.
