Saskatchewan held it's 28th legislative assembly last week, May 17th, 2016.

West Central Online spoke with the Honorable Jim Reiter, MLA for Elrose and Rosetown, about the throne's speech, "It went well. It was one of the shorter speeches from the throne since I've been around. I think it's probably to be expected because we have some financial situations in the province right now, for instance the low price of oil, we didn't make a lot of election promises."

Jim Reiter mentioned a few highlights, "We're going to have an all party committee look at some ways to increase organ donorship in Saskatchewan. We have an extremely low rate of that."

"We try to avoid tax increases wherever possible, that's going to continue. We are going to be very careful on the expenditure side, it'll be no secret to anybody that there will be a deficit but it's our intent to get back into the black as quickly as possibly," Jim explained when asked about the budget. The budget will be released on June 1st, 2016.
