Last month’s traffic safety spotlight was on commercial vehicle safety. 26 tickets were issued by law enforcement in August to commercial vehicles across the province.
Registered gross vehicle weight, load security, as well as log books and permits are all commercial vehicles safety requirements.

SGI has released a statement of the tickets given out last month.
  • 19 tickets for driving an unregistered vehicle
  • 4 tickets for exceeding the registered gross vehicle weight
  • 2 tickets for failing to produce a safety fitness certificate or inspection certificate
  • 1 ticket for driving without the appropriate driver’s licence
  • 171 tickets for not using a seatbelt or the appropriate child safety seat
  • 232 charges related to impaired driving
  • 345 tickets for failing to obey a stop sign or red light
  • 354 tickets for distracted driving (202 of those for cellphone use)
  • 4,012 tickets for speeding/aggressive driving

SGI is working to promote the significance of commercial vehicle safety for all drivers as a commercial vehicle’s larger size and weight can lead to worse consequences in the event of an accident.
