Last week students across West Central Saskatchewan went back to school, and the public school divisions found out that their promised share of $4 million dollars in Workers' Compensation Board rebates will now be going back to the province. Private schools in Saskatchewan will still be receiving their portion of the funding because only half of their operational budget comes from the province.

The money is a part of a $281 and a half million dollar surplus from the Workers' Compensation Board. The government will keep rebates from public schools which are completely funded by the province.

Saskatchewan health regions will also no longer be getting the $31 million of the Worker’s Compensation Board surplus that was originally reserved for them by the government.

The remaining amounts of the Workers’ Compensation Board surplus will be used by the province for the General Revenue Fund, and going toward the budget deficit. The General Revenue Fund is a means of lowering taxes.
