The Rosetown Central High School Track & Field team had a great showing in Saskatoon.

The team finished an impressive 11th out of nearly 200 schools.

Coach Mitch Wintonyk was very pleased with the effort from his athletes.

"It was a great weekend. The kids performed really well. We obviously won those two golds, and then silver and a bronze. Even those kids who didn't medal, there was a lot of personal bests and just gutsy type races to get you some higher standings and accumulate more points for your team. You can't overlook those performances either."

Coach Wintonyk then explained how the athletes prepared for all the track and field meets this spring.

“The one thing we always say every year is there are people who train for four years for one Olympic race, and we're going to try and do that in four weeks. It's not realistic, so just go and be a better athlete than the other schools.”

Both Taya Green and Dami Igbekoyi were at the top of podium for the Royals track team, with Green winning gold in girl intermediate long jump. Taking home silver was Igbekoyi in boys 100-meter dash. And Igbekoyi's strong meet concluded with a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash.
