After a brief cool down Wednesday and Thursday, the mercury is expected to be well above freezing this weekend. Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Terri Lang explains.

“We are expecting some pretty mild conditions to return for the weekend, so highs anywhere from 8 to 10 degrees possible. So, pretty nice temperatures for this time of year considering the average highs are around -2 and overnight lows around -11. So, the nice weather continues.”

Even though the temperatures are well above normal, Lang stated record highs probably still will not be broken this weekend.

“I don't think any high temperature records will be broken. Of course, our records online are incomplete, but a look at the actual records that we have threaded together shows that most of the records are still in the mid to high teens. So, I don't think we'll see any records fall, but it's still going to be pretty nice.”

With the long range forecast not showing any precipitation, Lang stated it is too bad, as the area could have used some before things freeze up.

“It's unfortunate about the precipitation though, because I think everybody could use some precipitation before everything freezes up and get some more moisture into that soil before the big freeze up. But it doesn’t look like there's anything major on the way.”
