The world’s largest T. rex is inviting folks to her home in Eastend this weekend, for opening day of the T. rex Discovery Centre (TRDC).

Doors are unlocking at 10a.m. on Saturday, with some familiar favourites and fun new additions for the summer months.

Aimee Castillo, the visitor experience supervisor at the TRDC, said a new aspect is their Expedition Passport, where kids collect stamps through scavenger hunts and attending events, receiving a Junior Paleontologist title once complete.

“Last year we had a different kind of scavenger hunt, and having these activities for kids is always nice to have [to immerse] themselves within the center,” she said. "I know it's quite a travel to reach us here, but making sure that they have a beautiful experience while they're here and having that souvenir for them about the memory that they have throughout the summer is always nice to have."

Castillo added that they’re hoping to see more visitors come out to the southwest museum this summer as things slowed down for them during the pandemic.

“It's always nice to see not just kids, everyone, have that experience in here,” she said. "They can see Scotty and other fossils up close here at the Discovery Center. It's sharing that knowledge and sharing those experiences and just making sure they have a great time here, that is always fulfilling.”

Located at #1 T-rex Drive in Eastend, the centre will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from this Saturday until Labour Day.
