The Government of Saskatchewan has released its official Crop Report for October 22nd to the 28th.

The West Central region is grouped with the northeastern region for the most progress this season, with 96 per cent of all crops now combined.

The southwest and northwest regions are currently sitting with 90 per cent of their crops combined, with the southeast region at 88 per cent, and the east central region at 82 per cent.

Farmers had a rough start to the harvest this year, due to unfavourable weather conditions, but have since been able to get back on track. Mixed precipitation consisting of rain and snow was received across most of the province last week.

The West Central region is now slightly ahead of the five-year average for 94 per cent for this time of year. The remaining crop is swathed or ready to straight-cut. Numerous producers have indicated they are finished harvest, while others will need a couple of days of favorable weather to reach the finish line.

While farmers in the West Central region did make good progress, strong winds and frost were the main causes of crop damages last week. Producers are keeping busy by drying grain, hauling bales, processing calves, and completing harvest operations

Last week, total harvest collection was sitting at 83 per cent for the whole province. Now, that number has risen to 90 per cent.

This will be the final weekly crop report for this season, with a final report to be released on November 21st to capture any additional harvest progress, and to summarize the season.
