West-central Saskatchewan residents are outside enjoying the warmer weather today after a bit of a cold spell.

The higher temperatures, projected to be well above the freezing mark today, won't be here to stay long and will soon plummet again.

Terri Lang, meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada, has been tracking the system for the past few days.

"We do have a weather system moving through central Sask. and what that's going to do is bring those mildly south-westerly winds to much of southern Sask," said Lang.

The temperature, which reached a staggering -26 C, began to rise overnight due to the direction of the wind shifting and the lack of snow cover in the southwest.

"Definitely a one-day thing, as that weather system moves through it's going to sweep a cold front down with it," Lang explained. "Might be some precipitation on that, maybe some rain showers, maybe a snow flurry or so.

"Temperatures dropping back down, but not as cold as they have been over the last couple of days," Lang said when asked about the predicted weather going into the weekend.

Lang also urges community members to check the highway hotline before travelling, as weather conditions can vary heavily between locations.
