Kindersley had a strong showing at the S4L 11 Provincial Championship in Swift Current.

The U15 team placed in second in the pools, but were knocked out in the semifinal game. However, they were able to win the Fair Play award, and came in second place in the skills competition. Ben Walz, a player on the U15 team, was declared the U15 MVP of the competition. The Fair Play award is voted by referees, while the MVP is voted by coaches.

Cheryl McGrath, the president of Kindersley Soccer, said that the players have come a long way, and still have room for improvement.

“They’re a really good group of kids. The longer you’re together, the better you play together. The communication has grown a lot better, so talking on the field, things like that, are improving, but they can always improve more. There’s always things to work on. Understanding the concept of the game, where to place the ball.”

The U19 team was also knocked out in the semi final game, but won the U19 Skills Competition for the fourth time in a row. They were also declared the winning team of the Fair Play award, and the U19 MVP was Olu Newkirk; their guest keeper from Saskatoon.

McGrath helped to express the pride that was felt by the whole community, as well as the surrounding communities.

“We’re just super proud of how these guys showed up and represented our club, and communities around. It’s Kindersley’s club, but the whole surrounding area is just really proud of how they’re doing, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow.”

With two Kindersley Storm teams, 2 skills Comp placings, 2Fair Play awards, and two MVPs, Kindersley had some great representation at the S4L 11 Provincial Championship. Soccer is an intense sport to play, so the fact that these two teams achieved so much during this one championship speaks volumes to the skills of these dedicated players.
