Basketball season is well underway now for High Schools across the province as teams are beginning league games, and playing in some early out-of-town tournaments.

The Rosetown Senior Boys and Senior Girls Basketball teams held their annual tournament this past weekend with four teams in each division coming out to play in the games. The Boys division saw the hometown Rosetown team, as well as teams from Eatonia, Wilkie and Outlook. In the Senior Girls division, the Rosetown team welcomed in Eatonia, Wilkie and Leader.

Games began on Friday afternoon, and continued on all throughout the day on Saturday.

Early in the year, teams are still getting a feel for the court and just trying to get back into the flow of the game. These tournaments are important because they prepare teams for important tournaments like conference play and regionals as you have to play multiple games in a day in the playoff round.

Krista Wenaas, Head Coach of the Senior Girls team in Rosetown, talked about her team's expectations heading into the 2017/2018 campaign.

"We have lots of Grade 11 girls who have all been with me in the past. We're looking to get into regionals and see what we can do there, as we have a very tough conference to face this season."

Wenaas also talked about some of the other tournaments that her group will be entering into this season.

"We do have tournaments in Eatonia and Wilkie in the month of January, and then in February we travel to Leader for a tournament. In March, we go to Moose Jaw for the final tournament of the season before playoffs begin."

The girls will also play a fair amount of league games against other teams close by, and can expect to be a busy group these next few months.
