Having the opportunity to represent your province on the national stage is something very few people will ever get to do in athletics, and something that takes years of training to achieve.

There were 6 athletes from the West Central Region that got invited to participate in the Canada Summer Games held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Summer Games are a two week event that have the very best athletes from each province compete to see who is the best in their country at their respective age level.

In Men's Baseball, Garrett Hawkins helped Team Saskatchewan win a gold medal by defeating Team Manitoba in the Gold Medal Game 3-1. Hawkins is a Biggar native, and is 17 years old.

In Men's Softball, Clayton McKenzie helped Team Saskatchewan win a silver medal after a hard fought game against Team Ontario in the Gold Medal Game. Team Saskatchewan finished first place overall in the round robin standings with a perfect record of 9 wins and 0 losses. After a loss to Team Ontario in the 1-2 Page Playoff Game, Team Saskatchewan faced Quebec in the semi-final game where they pulled out an 8-7 win to advance to the gold medal game. Saskatchewan was defeated by Team Ontario 4-1 in the final. McKenzie is originally from Delisle, and is 19 years old.

In Female Beach Volleyball, Jordyn Thomas represented Team Saskatchewan. They faced a tough Preliminary Round facing off against Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec and kept all games incredibly close, especially the one against Quebec which needed a tie-breaking set. Ultimately, Team Sask went down to the consolation round where they defeated Prince Edward Island in straight sets, and lost a close game to New Brunswick. Team Sask finished in 8th place in the final standings. Thomas lives in Wilkie, and is 17 years old.

In Men's Decathlon, Brendan Ritchie participated in multiple events representing the province. Events included a 100m heat, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 400m heat, 110m Hurdles, Discuss, Pole Vault, Javelin, and a 1500m heat. The system was ranked on points for each event, and participants would earn points according to how well they finished an event. Ritchie's top event was the 110m hurdles where he finished 7th best out of all 13 members competing. After all of the points were added up from the events, Ritchie finished 12th place in the country.

In Men's Pole Vault, Brendan Ritchie also competed in the specific category for Team Saskatchewan. Ritchie finished with a 3.40m Jump to finished 12th overall in the finals, making him the 12th best Pole Vaulter in the country at his respective age. Ritchie is only 18 years old, and resides in Eatonia.

In Female Discuss, Kennedy Mann represented her province and pushed all the way to the semi-final heat. Mann recorded a distance of 34.05M in her heat, which placed her 5th best out of eight competitors. Only the top 12 throwers advanced to the final heat, where Mann finished just shy in 14th place. Mann ranked in the top 14 in the country in the final standings. Mann is a Dinsmore native, and is 19 years old.

In Male Wrestling, August Bayliss will be competing in part of the second week at the Canada Summer Games. Bayliss is competing in the Men's Wrestling portion, and will be a part of Team Saskatchewan. Bayliss is from Denzil and is 17 years old.
