The annual Smile Cookie event has come and gone for another year, with thousands of locals stopping by the Kindersley Tim Horton’s to grab a treat all while raising money for this year’s choice charity.

This year, Tim Horton’s chose the Kindersley Aquatic Centre for their charity of choice and subsequently donated $1 from every smile cookie sold during the event to go towards the recently opened community pool.

The event, which ran from September 16-22, encouraged locals to come out and support their community, with each Tim Horton’s making the decision as to which charity will be receiving the final donation.

Mayor Rod Perkins, along with Audrey Hebert, CAO with the Town of Kindersley and Town Councillor, Randy Irvine, got in on the fun as well and stopped by the local Tim Horton’s to help put some smiles on the cookies.

Over the course of the week, the Kindersley Tim Horton’s sold a total of 4347 cookies, equaling the same total in money raised for the Kindersley Aquatic Centre.

Aquatics manager, Chantelle Benjamin, shared that the proceeds will be going towards acquiring life jackets and other water safety equipment.

The Kindersley Aquatic Centre opened just six months ago, this past March. The project which cost a reported $6.6 million, has provided, not only another recreational space for families and individuals, but has also allowed the Kindersley Swim Team to be resurrected.

Benjamin said, although there was a learning curve, she thanked everyone for their patience and also the support from the community.
