Producers looking for additional coverage, outside crop insurance, only have until the end of the month to enrol.

The AgriStability Program focuses on coverage for risks and financial losses due to poor yields, low commodity prices, or rising input costs, according to Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister, Marie-Claude Bibeau.

The program further accounts for a producer’s whole farming operation, not just one commodity.

As outlined by the provincial government, using historical information, based on income tax and supplementary information, the program creates a reference margin, of which, a benefit payment could be made if the current year falls below 30 per cent. The payment provides 70 cents for every dollar of benefit triggered.

The program fee to producers is $3.15 for every $1000 of covered Contribution Reference Margin, plus $55 for administrative costs. Enrolment into the program and the associated fee’s are due no later than April 30, 2019, otherwise a 20 per cent penalty fee will be added.
