A Saskatchewan Member of Parliament that has been fighting for fourteen years will finally have his issue debated on Parliament Hill.

Conservative MP Garry Breitkreuz has introduced a private members bill to scrap the national long gun registry. A Liberal plan that have gone an estimated 500 times over its original budget.

The bill would remove the national data bank of serials numbers and the requirement to catalogue all long guns in the country, however, owners would still need to be licence.

The registry was supposed to cost $2 million to run when introduced by the former Liberal government, but has actually cost over a billion dollars to date.
