The month of June is dedicated to raising awareness on Brain Injuries across Canada.

Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability among youth worldwide, and the use of a helmet can mean the difference between life and death. This is based on the fact that a large amount of brain injuries come from contact sports, or bicycle accidents.

The use of a helmet on a bicycle is extremely important to prevent injuries. The Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association states that helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injury by as much as 88%.

In Saskatchewan, there is an average of over 2,000 brain injuries a year. The main goal in 2017 is to raise awareness of just how vital helmets are when riding a bicycle, or a skateboard at the local skate-park.

Saskatchewan Brain Injuries Association has always placed a high level of significance on those who have already been affected by a brain injury in the past. The traumatic effects of brain injury can disrupt one's daily life in a dramatic way, and can be devastating to survivors and their family and friends.

Throughout the course of the month, Saskatchewan Brain Injuries Association will visit schools and other organizations to help promote avoiding injuries in the community.
