Rosetown's Doug Gasper has recently signed on as the new Assistant General Manager for the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Wheat Kings are a Canadian junior hockey team based in Brandon, Manitoba. They are members of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Gasper brings with him an extensive hockey background and has spent the past two seasons as a Western Canadian amateur scout for the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks.

Gasper, who has been involved with the WHL as well as the NHL, previously worked in the education system. This background armed Gasper with not only hockey knowledge, but also a real understanding of youth.

“It's pretty exciting, before I got into hockey full time, I was a high school teacher and an administrator in Sun West and different areas, so working with this age group of kids, like high school boys, I enjoy it, the two  blend well together,” shared Gasper.

Gasper will work closely with the teams General Manager Darren Ritchie, “We’re really excited to add Doug,” says Ritchie. “He’s well respected in our league…he’s hard working and has an excellent eye for talent.”

Some of Gasper’s duties will be running the scouting department and assisting with the overall organizing and running of the team. He will also be in charge of covering the bantams within Western Canada.

“This is a good chance for me to be really active in running a hockey program, said Gasper.”
