The Delisle Chiefs took the ice for the first time this year last night in Saskatoon. They took on the Saskatoon Royals and left with a 3-2 loss.

Returning goalie Tyler Peterson got the start in net last night and stopped 9 of 12 shots, before giving way to west central native and young goaltender Noah Martens who stopped all 15 shots he saw in relief.

Martens was just one of Delisle's newcomers in the lineup. Caley Lehouillier scored and Kyle Heintz chipped in with an assist, as Troy Joyce, Easton Ediger, and a few others including Nate Bentham, Kylen Taphorn, and Adam Horner made their Chief debuts as well.

Cole Youngman scored the Chiefs other goal, but instead of a late game comeback the game unraveled a bit at the end when John Usselman scrapped Delisle's Taylor Unrath at the 6 minute mark of the third with the pair picking up game misconducts, and then the Royals’ Jacob Atkinson fought Boston Unrath for the same result near the end of the game.

The Royals and Chiefs will go at it again on Saturday night at the Delisle Centennial Arena. That game will be the Chiefs second of the pre-season, and then a match-up on Sunday vs Fort Knox will be their final tuneup ahead of the Saturday, October 2nd regular season opener again at home against the Saskatoon Royals.
