SaskPower and SaskEnergy have collaborated to create a rebate for homeowners in the province looking to make their residences more energy efficient.
The Home Energy Retrofit Rebate (HERR) offers to invest in people trying to become more energy efficient with their homes. The rebate works as a provincial increase on the federal Canada Greener Homes grant, giving homeowners even more resources to make a climate-minded and wallet-friendly switch.
Jodi Woollam, manager of media relations for SaskEnergy, encourages Saskatchewan residents to consider making their homes greener.
“This is a collaborative Program with SaskEnergy and SaskPower, and indeed we are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” stated Woollam. “One of the most impactful actions we can do to reduce emissions in natural gas is helping customers become more efficient in their use. This program allows us to help them retrofit their homes, so they burn less natural gas increasing energy efficiency.”
Home insulation, air sealing, windows and doors may be the biggest culprits around cooling down your home or releasing heat. This greatly affects energy efficiency and causes utility bills to skyrocket. A key step in reaching this grant is to have the residence undergo an energy audit by a EnerGuide licensed advisor.
“They would come in and do an evaluation and let you know what pieces of your home or where the priority areas would be for your energy efficiency,” said Woollam. “SaskEnergy perspective is that rebate programs really support homeowners and businesses to invest in upgrading energy efficient equipment. Our focus with this rebate comes down to helping customers save energy and money while reducing emissions.”
The Canada Greener Homes grant can be up to $5,000, while the additional HERR funding could add up to $1,800.
