Though he curls out of the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, current skip for Team Saskatchewan Colton Flasch at the Tim Hortons Brier will always hail from the curling heavy community of Biggar. The west central town has lots of history when it comes to throwing rocks in houses, actually just recently holding their annual bonspiel to end February with members of Flasch’s family in attendance; and set to take off to the Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge just a few days after.

Everyone in town was excited to see Flasch lead his team to the next step, and organizing member of the recent event in Biggar Joyce Sherbino has long been a supporter of Flasch and his curling career.

“He’s the same age as our son, so I know how involved he’s been in curling since he was a little kid. Typical to start out in hockey, then he decided to try curling, and then literally threw hundreds of rocks and he would just throw and throw and throw; and it paid off for him in the end.”

Another competitive curler out of the Town of Biggar, Brett Barber, also shared some comments on Flasch and his appearance at this year’s Brier.

“Super exciting. Definitely a new experience as a skip, and he gets to Lethbridge where he won a silver medal at the worlds,” shared Barber, “Kind of a familiar setting, back to a place where he has had great success, and he has a great group of boys to back him so I think he is going to do really good.”

Flasch and his team have fared alright so far in the tournament, sitting at 4-2 after a morning win against Team Yukon, and they are slated to be back on the ice for the 7:30 draw as they take on Team Newfoundland and Labrador.
