Ottawa pledged 250,000 new childcare spaces over 5 years but as of reporting only half have been created.

The target for Saskatchewan is close to 30 thousand but only 9 thousand have been created, leaving two thirds to still be created by 2026.

In 2023 the provincial and federal government achieved 10 dollar a day childcare, this compounded an already big issue of available spaces.

Now with the federal government lacking in their creation of additional spaces, many parents are left unable to access daycare and other childcare facilities.

Having spoken with a local daycare in Kindersley, more needs to be done. Wait lists can extend over 2 years to have children gain access to a government licensed facility.

There is also a labor shortage putting a squeeze on the amount of properly staffed facilities.
